Don't Just Stand There

Apr 12, 2026    Pastor Aquila Mitchell

This powerful message challenges us to move beyond celebrating past victories and into our present assignment. Drawing from Acts 1:1-11, we're confronted with a crucial question: why do we stand gazing at what God has already done when He's calling us forward? The forty days between resurrection and ascension weren't random—they were a systematic presentation of infallible proofs. Jesus showed His wounds not to display His pain, but to demonstrate that we can go through death seasons and emerge with evidence of our struggle without being limited by it. The empty tomb proves He got up, but the scars prove He went through something and it didn't stop Him. We learn that some moments in God were never meant to be destinations but thresholds—doorways we must pass through. The danger lies in turning moments into monuments, camping where we should be crossing over, and honoring yesterday while missing tomorrow. Just as the disciples couldn't stay on the Mount of Transfiguration, we cannot remain fixated on our resurrection Sunday experience. There's a promise waiting, there's power to receive, and there's work to be done. This same Jesus who rose is coming back, and we must stop gazing at past glory and start moving toward what He's doing right now in our lives.
